Community Counseling Program

Cumberland Youth & Family Services offers low-cost counseling sessions for children, teens, adults, and families. Our therapists use trauma-informed counseling approaches and various modalities, including play therapy, talk therapy, and EMDR. We are currently accepting new clients.

We have two locations to best serve you. Our Community Counseling Clinic is located on our campus at 1013 Greenlee St. in Denton, Texas. We recently opened a satellite office in Lewisville at 907 W. Main Street. We rent space from First Lewisville United Methodist with a private entrance in the back of the church. Please note, all counseling services are secular.

Counseling services at Cumberland are available to those insured by Cigna, Blue Cross Blue Shield, Ambetter and Superior Health, and for residents of Denton County who are uninsured or underinsured and lack the necessary coverage for counseling. We have limited after-school, evening, and weekend appointments available. In-person and Telehealth video conference options are available.

Request Appointment

  • 1. Fill out the intake form linked here or call 940-382-5112

    2. Our counseling team will get in touch with you to schedule an appointment and complete your counseling intake.

    3. When you arrive for your intake appointment you will meet with the counselor and together determine how future sessions will fit best in your schedule.

  • Complete the information form to get started. The only requirement is that you are a resident of Denton County and you are either uninsured or underinsured, lacking the coverage you need for counseling.

  • The intake appointment is free and after that your appointments will be $5 per session.

    Our goal is ensure counseling is accessible and affordable for all Denton County residents. If you cannot afford the $5 appointment rate our counseling staff will work with you to come up with a pricing plan that works with your budget.

  • Please bring proof of City of Denton/Denton County residency. This can be a piece of mail with your name and address, drivers license with City of Denton or Denton County address or similar.

  • We accept Superior Star HealthWellcare by AllwellAmbetter, BCBS, and Cigna plans. The community counseling program is built for underinsured and uninsured clients and payment options are based on a sliding scale. Sliding scale charges are based on individual income and can be very affordable.

About the Community Counseling Program

Access to low-cost counseling services, especially for the underinsured and uninsured, is important to us. We are a historically trusted resource for counseling services in Denton County and the North Texas region. This program allows us to leverage that history to offer counseling services to kids and adults in Denton County. We offer a space that is friendly and welcoming. The Community Counseling Program services for Denton Residents are funded through a grant from the City of Denton. The counseling expansion into Lewisville for City of Lewisville residents is funded through a contract with the City of Lewisville. Denton County residents (regardless of city of residence) are served through generous grants from the Flow Health Care Foundation and Coserv Charitable Foundation.

Intake Criteria

The Cumberland Youth & Family Services Community Counseling Program accepts counseling clients insured by Medicaid, under-insured, or those who are uninsured in Denton County. We also accept residents in any county who are covered by BCBS, Cigna, Ambetter, and Superior.
